Espy and her boyfriend, Niner, came to live at Saints Of The West Rescue (located on 40 acres outside Reno, NV) last January !st. Their owner turned them in when she could no longer afford to feed or care for them. Espy is 3 years old.
They had settled in here and the process of finding them new homes was in full swing. They had been here about 6 weeks when signs that Espy might be pregnant appeared. Our veterinarian confirmed this, on xray she saw 13 to 15 puppies!
Our rescue is not set up for puppies so we went into high gear and got a place ready for the upcoming births . The previous owner had no idea Espy had been bred so no sure due date was known.
Friday, March 18, Espy delivered one puppy on her own but was so full of pups she could not deliver the rest. She had an emergency C-section and we brought home 15 healthy pups around midnight.
